Riding back north from the tower of Himaros, and just before entering Filoti, we tried to reach the Cave of Zeus, a cave known since the ancient years of Greek history.

The top of the rock you see on the top right, behind the trees, is 1004 meters high, and reportedly the highest point of Naxos island. The next high top is Koronos mountain, towering Koronos and Komiaki villages, at 997 meters. Notice also the start of the walking trail leading to the cave. And, no, we didn't reach the cave, but we stopped at the small fountain only halfway. We were there at late noon, which made the whole task a lot more difficult. It is reportedly about 2-3km of rock trail to walk. (next time, too!).

Remember the pic in the previous page with me alone riding and towering me a cliff with a hard-to-see little church on top of it? This is the one, from as close as we could ride.

The afternoon lunch at Filoti was a must-do! And lovely tastes too!

Ready for a night out, at Naxos port walk? My baby is ready! So was I :-)

The next morning we are heading north, taking the new coastal road. About 20km from the Naxos port we will stop for some sea swimming at lovely Abrami beach.

At the left side of this pure and lonely beach is this little church, also reached only by foot. (OK this one was a few hundred meters walk only!)

Abrami brings some good memories, too. Actually two of its few inhabitants are old friends. One is my uncle George, whose vineyards I've made quite infamous with my previous reference to them. The other family is the ones who maintain some rooms to rent there, and one of the best and lovely taverns in whole Greece. If you wish to have a room in the summer in this paradise on earth, you can always email me, so I can get you in contact with them (no, they are not in the net!). The place runs like this: Its tavern is about 15 meters from the beach. They serve morning coffee and breakfast, and of course lunch and dinner and refreshments. The rooms are not air conditioned but I can assure you, you don't need it there. It's always cool! Abrami is a place not known to the world (till now. Oh My God, why am I revealing it?!) and it's always so peaceful, serene and quiet. The paradise on earth (am I repeating myself?)!
